While education, entrepreneurship, journalism, and political campaign can be done by any person, what about law and medical endeavor? I agree with you on encouraging technologists to abandon their craft and go out there mingling with the societal systems, but I cannot imagine how a technologist can switch to become a lawyer, a doctor, an economist, or any other profession requiring advanced degree or practitioner certification.
I’d propose technologists to become facilitators of human experts and domain experts. They can be the ones advising social scientists to look for human insights relevant to technology (identifying the problem), and involving domain experts like doctors/lawyers to collaboratively develop the paths toward solution (before touching the tech).
Thanks for writing. I also wish more people would break out. I myself quit 5 years ago.
