If that theory is true, then poetry and religion emerged together at the very beginning out of the same basic psychic experience of burgeoning reflective self-consciousness appearing in a world where “inner” and “outer” had not yet been clearly distinguished. We’re talking 200,000 years ago, with the first Homo Sapiens.
This makes sense, because many religious holy books are written like a collection of poems. It’s the reason they became source of dogmatism because people these days tend to read them like a bill or legal instrument instead of a literary work.
