Thanks for writing a concise history of immigration in the USA. It helps me understand the arguments between left and right wings. I’m a global nomad since the 1990's, who’s used to the term “illegal immigration” because all countries have their rules and I simply follow as applicable. I have a simple understanding that every country has the right to select who can enter their lands, just like we select which guests are welcome inside our house.
In the case of Mexican migrant workers, maybe USA can try what Singapore does (similar industrialized nations in Asia have done so, too, also because of neighboring Asians interested in economic migrations). Back to your writing, thanks also for showing the history of why the right wants homogeneity. I wrote something after an encounter with a homogeneity proponent whose argument was just too weak: “Americans aren’t happy, because of immigrants”.
