Thank you for writing this! Coming from the typical Indonesian high school’s priority over “hard” sciences, I studied tech and eventually managed to stand in between, in the intersection of tech and social, into the arts (design).

I acknowledge all your concerns on LPDP’s lowering the priority of social science scholarship. That’s indeed a subject worthy of more concern than what I once had. It was about the colonized mind of American tech graduates trying to promote tech subjects to fellow Indonesian women. It’s an unnecessary effort unlike what the West is facing. I wrote this piece (12-min reading), to acknowledge the real problem of “gendered education” in the West that resulted in the minority of women in tech, as well as mentioning “decolonizing feminism” to ask Western-educated Indonesians to look at the actual gender inequality issues that Indonesia needs to work on.
